OK, so I was discussing a question with one of my co-workers: Would you say "the northern most town in the world" in English? In my opinion it would be more natural to say "the most northern", but what do you think?

"northern most" is probably how most would say it, even though it doesn't sound natural. You could also say "The furthest north" :D hehe

Language is weird, I can't explain why we would say "northern most" but that is how it is usually said. Maybe when I was still in school and studying English more in depth I'd have a better explanation for you lol

Either works fine in English, I'd *probably* go with 'The northern most ...', or possibly 'the most northerly'. 'The most northern ...' has a bit of an overtone of 'which is the most stereotypical of northerness'

And now 'north' looks wrong because I've typed it so much.

But isn't it incorrect to write "northern most town"? That's what it said on the map, but we found out later that "northernmost" would be fine...

That's a good point ... yes, it should be one word (that's why I use jeremy_m for all my proofreading needs)

It's generally one word: "northernmost"

Mhm... But "northern most town" is incorrectly written, right?

Yeah, a little googling shows that it needs to be one word, or "most northern."

It should be "northernmost town," usually.

"Most Northern" sounds weird to me. Northernmost is right here, I think. I'd probably say something like "furthest North", though.
